Stop AC Transit from raising youth fares!
AC Transit staff is proposing nearly doubling youth pass prices to balance its budget. But, AC Transit staff convinced voters to pass Measure BB in 2004 by promising to preserve $15 youth passes. Contact AC Transit Board members to remind them they can't raise youth fares while Measure BB is in effect. Attend the May 21st Hearing.
Kids First in Statewide and National Media
“What has drawn us to the story is the initiative shown by these young people at Kids First - their efforts to improve their own education and that of subsequent students are inspirational. The youth leaders demonstrate that students can make a difference in their own education." – CBS News Producer.

At Oakland Kids First, we create lasting cultural change that increases the supports and opportunities necessary for student success in Oakland schools through partnership and youth-driven ideas and action. We believe that as a critical mass of young people take responsibility for themselves, for each other, and for their education – they have the power to immediately improve student culture and school climate and organize more effectively with their peers to win long-term systemic changes. Our innovative Culture Change strategies result in higher graduation, college attendance and retention rates, more class participation, the creation of more meaningful youth leadership opportunities, and a greater sense of connection and responsibility students have towards their peers and their education.
